The new Desert Island Boom Set pairs the CMC 1 U microphone amplifier with the MK 41 supercardioid and KMIT shotgun capsule, giving boom operators a versatile indoor-outdoor solution in a single Pelican Case.

German microphone manufacturer SCHOEPS, founded in 1948 and still family-owned, has built its reputation on precision engineering and a deep understanding of how professionals work on set. The Desert Island Boom Set, announced at NAB 2026, is a good example of that thinking in practice.

The kit centres on the CMC 1 U microphone amplifier paired with two capsules: the MK 41 supercardioid and the KMIT shotgun, the latter finished in the CMIT’s signature blue. Indoors, the MK 41 delivers the controlled pickup pattern and natural sound character that dialogue recording demands. Outside, the KMIT brings the additional directivity needed on location. One amplifier body, two capsules, swapped in seconds – all packed into a robust Pelican Case.

For boom operators who’ve spent time deliberating over which microphone to pack for a shoot, having both scenarios covered in a single compact case is a practical solution. The modular nature of the Colette system has always been one of SCHOEPS’ strengths, and the Desert Island Boom Set leans into that flexibility rather than asking operators to carry separate rigs.

Co-CEO Karin Fléing captured the mood around the announcement well, saying: “NAB is where the whole film audio community comes together: colleagues, fellow manufacturers, during show time & late nights. And this year we have something new to talk about.”

The Desert Island Boom Set sits alongside an expanding family of Desert Island Sets from SCHOEPS, each designed around the real-world demands of location and broadcast work. For more information, visit schoeps.de.
