Australian Women In Music Awards aims to highlight women who are pushing the industry forward as either performers, producers, songwriters and industry professionals to help close the gender gap in Australian Music. As AWMA Founding Executive Producer & Program Director Vicki Gordon says:

“Gender equity is still a long way in the future and we all need to remain vigilant.”

There are 20 awards to be won this year across all disciplines, with a specially-convened 37 seat Jury Council deciding on the winners. The council represents a diverse range of music disciplines and cultures.

Shannon Fentiman, the Minister for Women, responded to the nominations with:

“Congratulations to this year’s finalists, who should not only be proud of their achievements but also the inspiration they provide in empowering young women and girls considering a future in music.

I’ve always said, you can’t be what you can’t see. When we celebrate our talented female artists and industry leaders, we move a step closer towards the goal of gender equality in the music industry”.
