This week, Deep Purple return with their sinful, yet absolutely marvellous album of covers Turning to Crime, Death Angel collate their most rarely played or never performed songs with The Bastard Tracks, and Chillinit dawns a “mature” new era with Family Ties.

Deep Purple – Turning to Crime
Deep Purple have returned with Turning to Crime, a humorous take on the album being 12 tracks and 50 minutes of entirely cover songs! The lazy attempt to stay relevant from many bands with sinful releases of covers or re-releases has long been criticised and Deep Purple recognise that. This album is anything but that, though.
Collaborating remotely for the first time in their storied history, some of the covers include Love’s ‘7 and 7 is’, Cream’s ‘White Room’, and Bob Dylan’s ‘Watching the River Flow’ just to name a few. The final track ‘Caught in the Act’ is a brilliant medley featuring songs from Booker T. & the M.G’s, the Allman Brothers Band, and Led Zeppelin!

Death Angel – The Bastard Tracks
After more than 30 years of creating music, Death Angel, like many bands, have a lot of album tracks that don’t get the same love that many others do. They decided to perform The Bastard Tracks live in front of no crowd, a “deep-cuts collection of rarely and never performed songs from the band’s celebrated catalogue”.
After recording live at The Great American Music Hall in their hometown of San Francisco on May 22 this year, vocalist Mark Osegueda said “it was a bit odd performing to no crowd, but it felt great re-learning some deep tracks and getting on stage with the guys and unleashing this pent-up aggression”.
“The response from everyone who tuned into it suggesting that we release it as an album was overwhelming. Well… thanks to them, here it is. I hope you enjoy it,” he said.

Chillinit – Family Ties
Dawning a “mature” new era for Chillinit, Family Ties will contain guest features from around the world and run at over 20 tracks to tell the Chillinit story up to this point.
He said this album “represents to me every single stage I’ve been through, and how all that mattered at the end is that my family is OK”.
“Everything in life ties back to family for me, whether it’s friendships, business, social life, it all ties back to ‘as long as your family’s good, everything’s alright’,” he said.
