The free beta is led by Lucid Beatgrids, a rebuilt engine that maps tempo changes and downbeats automatically, with Open Streaming and Cue Loops alongside.
Serato DJ 5.0 is now out in public beta, rebuilt around Lucid Beatgrids – a new take on the tool that maps the beats in a track, so the software knows where every downbeat and tempo shift falls.
Catch up on all the latest news here.
A beatgrid is what keeps two tracks locked together when you mix. Anything that drifts in tempo, whether it’s live recordings, older material or anything played by hand, has always needed fixing by hand. Lucid Beatgrids finds those tempo changes and downbeats on its own, on both steady and fluctuating tracks, so there’s less editing and less chance of a track slipping out of time mid-set. For DJs who like to fine-tune, the beta adds a new Flexible analysis mode, an improved Fixed mode, better editing controls and BPM labels on the waveform. Open Streaming allows you to log into several streaming services at once and mix across them and your own library, no switching accounts. Each service shows up as its own crate, with a search dropdown for hopping between them, and BPM and key now appear before a track is analysed.Cue Loops, available in DJ Pro only, lets you save a loop to a Hot Cue and trigger it with a single button press.
