The Music Sustainability Alliance has launched the MSA Bobby Weir Sustainability Awards, a new annual honour recognising individuals and organisations in music driving real environmental progress.
Bobby Weir spent over six decades encouraging the music world to think about its impact on the planet. Now, the Music Sustainability Alliance is putting his name to an award that honours those carrying that work forward.
The MSA Bobby Weir Sustainability Awards, or the “Bobby Awards”, will recognise individuals and organisations across the music industry who are advancing environmental responsibility and climate action. The inaugural awards will be presented at the 2026 Music Sustainability Summit on Tuesday, 14 April in Los Angeles.

Presented with the support of the Weir family, the awards cover a broad range of contributions, including greener touring, sustainable venues, innovative supply chains and fan engagement. The Weir family spoke to the heart behind the honour, stating, “Bobby always strived to leave nothing but bare footprints on the Earth. If it was helpful to the planet, animals, or others, it was always a yes for him. He spent decades encouraging the music world to consider its impact on the land, the climate, and future generations. We appreciate the opportunity to support MSA as it recognises leaders carrying that spirit forward.”
MSA co-founder and CEO Amy Morrison adds, “Bobby Weir has long demonstrated how music can inspire care for the planet, and we’re honoured to have the support of the Weir family to recognise the innovators and leaders transforming the music industry and turn that spirit into real environmental progress. We hope the awards will shine a spotlight on the people across the music ecosystem who are proving that sustainability and creativity can move forward together.”
Nominations are open to the wider MSA community, which spans artists, venues, crews, vendors, labels, promoters, managers and platforms. A judging panel that includes a Weir family representative, Joel Makower of Trellis Group, Rev Lennox Yearwood Jr. of Hip Hop Caucus and MSA board members will select the honourees.
Beyond the awards ceremony, the 2026 Music Sustainability Summit will tackle topics including fan travel emissions, zero-waste festival strategies, sustainable instrument materials and AI’s relationship with sustainability. More than three dozen speakers are confirmed.
