Arturia launches Rev OCEAN reverb with three expressive tail modes

Arturia REV OCEAN reverb plugin
Words by Mixdown

Rev OCEAN's three modes – Abyss, Tide and Foam – each reshape the reverb tail differently, from pitch-shifted depth to soft swelling textures and phase-like spectral movement.

Arturia has released Rev OCEAN, a reverb plugin powered by FDN processing and multi-stage diffusion, designed to produce smooth, constantly moving tails with spatial depth. The plugin sits alongside Arturia’s existing efx AMBIENT in the company’s effects range, with a more focused interface and finer parameter control tuned specifically for lush, fluid modulation.

The core of Rev OCEAN is its three expressive modes: Abyss, Tide and Foam.

Abyss adds layered reverse textures with pitch shifting, producing a harmonically rich evolving tail. Tide introduces modulated filtering for smooth, phase-like spectral movement. Foam builds a soft, diffused attack for a blurred, swelling reverb texture. Each mode reshapes the reverb tail differently, making it practical to move between subtle ambient spaces and heavier subaquatic atmospheres depending on the source material.

Mix shaping sits across controls for size, decay, brightness, filtering, ducking, transients and width. The ducking control in particular covers a wide range – from subtle gain reduction for clarity to extreme pumping for rhythmic sound design. A Freeze function holds reverb tails indefinitely, useful for suspended textures, infinite spaces and evolving transitions.

The plugin ships with a curated preset library covering immediate depth and motion across a range of contexts, from downtempo and ambient to more experimental treatments. Arturia notes that Rev OCEAN and efx AMBIENT serve different purposes: Rev OCEAN is built for fluid modulation woven into a mix, while efx AMBIENT covers a broader timbral palette with a tone glitching engine for more unpredictable sound design sessions.

Rev OCEAN is available now and supports VST2, VST3, AU and AAX formats on macOS and Windows.
