Jands An Australian Story by Ron Ringer charts the history of an organisation that grew rapidly from its small beginnings as a cottage industry in Sydney’s eastern suburbs and the upper north shore. Since 1970, the company has been providing customers with professional audio, lighting and staging solutions and top-tier products. The initial driving force was two brilliant individuals, Bruce Jackson and Phillip Storey (the ‘J’ and ‘S’ in JANDS) who sold their small business to the Robinson and Mulholland brothers.

The rest is history, as they say. Early on, the brothers and a devoted group of employees, forged a local and international reputation for the firm as the ‘go-to’ rental company for bands and promoters who relied on Jands to supply world class audio and lighting systems along with operators and crew, in order to stage rock events for Australian and overseas acts. Unsurprisingly, the story is that of the people of JANDS – their hard work and determination to survive and succeed, and their values expressed in excellence, integrity, professionalism, respect for the client, and collaboration – working together. JANDS has always been about reading the market, recognising opportunity, and adapting to meet changing economic conditions. Today, JANDS is one of Australia and New Zealand’s leading distributors of audio-visual products.
