Gamechanger Audio’s new sustain pedal builds layers on its own

Gamechanger Audio PLUS Pedal II
Words by Mixdown

Built around an entirely new Spectral Sampling engine, the PLUS Pedal II adds automatic layering, XLR connectivity and a three-position FX loop to Gamechanger Audio's best-selling sustain pedal.

Gamechanger Audio has rebuilt its PLUS Pedal from the ground up, launching the PLUS Pedal II with a new sound engine, automatic layering and significantly expanded connectivity.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

The original PLUS Pedal built a reputation among guitarists and experimental musicians for real-time layered sustain. The new version replaces the engine entirely with Spectral Sampling – a system that captures audio in real time and uses spectral resynthesis to preserve the timbre, dynamics and harmonic character of the input rather than simply freezing it. It handles a wide range of sources: guitar, vocals, flute, saxophone, violin, cello and acoustic instruments, and a combo XLR/TS input with a built-in studio-grade mic preamp means microphones can plug straight in without additional equipment.

Auto Layer Catch is the standout new mode – the engine continuously listens for new note events and adds them to the sustain pool automatically, so players can keep a foot resting on the brass pedal and perform freely without triggering each layer manually. It’s closer in feel to a piano sustain pedal than a typical effects unit. A Layers knob sets the active count from a single note up to ten simultaneous harmonic layers, or Infinite Mode for endless stacking.

Rise and Decay knobs shape the fade-in and fade-out of each individual layer, while Tone and Resonance controls apply dynamic filtering and harmonic resonance to the sustained signal. Catch and Hold switches define how new notes enter the sustain pool and how active layers behave while the pedal is engaged.

The three-position FX loop is worth singling out: a routing switch places external effects before the engine, inside the sustained layers only, or after the full combined output – each position producing a different result from the same effects unit. An optional external footswitch adds Wet mode for pure sustained output, Latch to hold the pedal active without physical engagement, and Hide to drop the dry signal while the brass pedal is pressed.

The PLUS Pedal II is available now from gamechangeraudio.com, with first units shipping in August.
