Three modelled microphones, console saturation and virtual cushions bring Studio D's chamber into VST3, AU and AAX.
The reverb chamber built into Blackbird Studio’s Studio D has shaped a long line of Nashville recordings. Now, Nashville developer KIT Plugins has modelled it in software as BB Chamber D, made in collaboration with Blackbird. Designed to recreate the chamber’s depth and decay, the plugin adds controls a physical room can’t really offer.

Three microphones are modelled on the mics commonly used in the chamber: a C24 that sounds balanced and natural, an R88 that’s warm and smooth, and a 414 that’s bright and detailed. Virtual cushions recreate the dampening trick engineers use in Studio D, pulling back decay time and tone without leaving the box.
The source placement options mirror real tracking. Signals run through Hi-Fi, PA or Direct modes, and can sit inside the chamber or feed from Studio D’s live room, just as reamping and room miking work on the original. A PreDelay control adds separation before the reverb comes in.
There’s plenty of processing built in too, with saturation coming from KIT’s A5 emulation of the Studio D console, and a 4-band EQ modelled on the same desk. High-pass and low-pass filters sit pre and post, a compressor tightens the reverb tail, and a ducker steps the reverb back under vocals and lead lines. Factory, Collaborator and User presets are handled in a preset manager.
BB Chamber D runs on ADPT:AI, KIT’s own modelling engine for rooms and reverbs, which maps the chamber’s reflections rather than approximating them with a generic algorithm. Where the real chamber has fixed dimensions, the Size control shortens the virtual room for tighter ambience or stretches it out for longer decays, while Width moves the stereo image from focused depth to a wide spread.

BB Chamber D follows KIT’s BB N105, the first channel strip emulation of the Blackbird Studio A console. It comes in VST3, AU and AAX for macOS and Windows, with support for all major DAWs.
