The festival will now go down later this October.
After being cancelled in heartbreaking circumstances just one day prior to kicking off in April due to COVID concerns, Bluesfest Byron Bay have now released their intended dates for their rescheduled 2021 event.
Catch up on all the latest touring news here.
As reported by Double J, the festival will now occur at Byron’s Tyagarah Tree Farm from Friday 1 through to Monday October 4, almost six months after its original dates.
An announcement on the Bluesfest website also hints that the lineup for the rescheduled festival will also land next Wednesday on May 19, giving punters a second chance to relive all their Byron festival dreams once again.
After previously announcing intended 2020 festival performers Bon Iver, Patti Smith and George Benson to headline their 2021 event, Bluesfest made the pivot to an all-Australian lineup for this year’s festival last November, confirming Tash Sultana, Jimmy Barnes and The Living End as headliners.
In February, the festival revealed that their COVIDSafe plan had been approved by the NSW Government and that the event would be clear to go ahead.
However, Bluesfest’s likelihood of occurring was again jeopardised after a Brisbane-based COVID outbreak made its way down to Byron Bay, with the coastal town recording a local case in the days before the festival’s kick-off date.
Despite their extensive COVID planning and extreme safety measures, the festival was ordered by NSW Health to not go ahead just one day prior to kicking off in Easter, making it the second year running that the festival had been cancelled.
Around the time, Live Performance Australia (LPA) estimated that the cancelation of the festival could result in more than $10 million in losses for Bluesfest and the surrounding Byron Bay area, with punters taking to social media to voice their frustrations at NSW Health’s handling of the event.
Bluesfest 2021 will go down at Tyagarah Tree Farm near Byron Bay from Friday 1 – Monday 4 October. Keep your eyes peeled to Bluesfest’s website to see their revised 2021 lineup when it lands next Wednesday May 19.
