The group teamed up with Fender for the musical grants back in March.
Dance-punk trio DZ Deathrays drop their fourth track ‘Make Yourself Mad’ in the lead up to their new album Positive Rising: Part 2 due for a July 9 release.
The band said in a press release that ‘Make Yourself Mad’ is a “raucous statement about the role we play in allowing social media or the media propaganda machine to boil our blood and seriously impact our mental wellbeing”.
“In between heavy guitar riffs, singer Shane Parsons reckons with the sensation of opening an app or turning on the TV, knowing full well the way it’ll make him feel”.
‘Get off the internet / Turn down the noise / No more 60 Minutes / Don’t let them have a voice … Reading a headline / Choosing your side / Miseducated they try to change your mind’.
Parsons said that we can break the negative cycle by removing ourselves from a situation.
“Sometimes the simplest answer to people getting frustrated by other people’s opinions is to just leave it alone,” he said.
The band also announced the three winners of their Positive Rising Grant competition which opened in March in partnership with Fender.
Three winners have received a Squier guitar and amp thanks to Fender, a year’s worth of fortnightly online guitar classes through The Artist Studio, a copy of DZ Deathrays albums Positive Rising: Part 1 and Positive Rising: Part 2 on vinyl, and a limited-edition pack of DZ Deathrays guitar picks.
The group has also launched a new competition in which the winner and three friends will receive a home cooked meal by the band, as well as a merch pack.
Positive Rising: Part 2 arrives via I OH YOU on Friday July 9.
