The Atlanta band's ninth record arrives via Loma Vista with a reshaped line-up, a cast of guest players and Geezer Butler on bass.
Mastodon’s ninth studio album, Marrow Deep, is out now through Loma Vista Recordings, the Atlanta band’s first full-length since 2021’s Hushed and Grim. It arrives with a new line-up, with founding members Brann Dailor, Troy Sanders and Bill Kelliher now joined by Nick Johnston and João Nogueira.
Made after a stretch of personal upheaval, the record takes the Three Fates of Greek mythology and the threads linking life, loss and destiny as its starting point, channelling five years of grief and change into what the band describe as some of their most expansive and adventurous music yet.

Mastodon co-produced Marrow Deep at their own West End Sound in Atlanta with Patrik Berger, whose credits run to Lana Del Rey and Charli XCX, and Kurt Ballou of High on Fire and Converge. Andrew Scheps, who has worked with Adele, Black Sabbath and Metallica, handled the mix. The guest list includes features from Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, Neil Fallon of Clutch, Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe, Converge’s Nate Newton and Ben Koller, Gojira’s Joe Duplantier, and Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler.
“Bill, Brann, and myself are thrilled that we still have the opportunity to do this, and we’ve got other members who are just over the moon to be in the band with us,” Sanders says. “It’s reminiscent of the very beginning of our band, where all members are hungry, we’re united, and excited to get to work.”
Marrow Deep follows Hushed and Grim, which gave the band their third straight number one on the Billboard Hard Rock chart. The Grammy winners, formed in Atlanta in 2000, have spent 25 years refusing to sit still, and this new chapter carries on in much the same spirit.
