Serato's multi-FX plug-in gets major upgrade with three new effects and 40 fresh presets.

Serato has dropped Hex FX 1.1, a comprehensive update to their multi-FX plug-in that’s set to transform how music producers approach sound design. The Auckland-based audio software company has packed this latest version with game-changing features that expand creative possibilities for electronic music makers.

Since launching Hex FX in December 2024, Serato has established the plug-in as an essential tool for producers seeking dynamic, customisable effects in one streamlined package. This newest iteration of Hex FX 1.1 takes that foundation and builds upon it with significant enhancements that address user feedback and industry demands.

Key features of Hex FX 1.1

  • Preset Macro Editor for complete customisation control
  • Three new effect types: Spring Reverb, Cassette Sim and 3-Band EQ
  • 40 new presets including collaborations with Kaelin Ellis and Oh Gosh Leotus
  • Enhanced UI/UX improvements and bug fixes
  • Expanded library now featuring 50 effects and 200+ presets

The standout addition is the Preset Macro Editor, a powerful tool that allows producers to customise how every effect and parameter in their chain responds to the central Hex Dial. This feature enables precise automation, dynamic FX chains and unique texture creation from a single control interface, dramatically streamlining the production workflow.

The three new effects each serve distinct purposes in modern production. Spring Reverb offers four modes including Vintage, Modern, Cosmic and Digital, pushing traditional spring reverb concepts into new territories.

The Cassette Sim recreates vintage lo-fi textures with controllable Hiss, Wow, Flutter, Mechanical Grab and Warm Overdrive parameters. Meanwhile, the 3-Band EQ provides parametric Low-Shelf, Mid-Bell and High-Shelf controls for precise tone sculpting within the effects chain.

Producer collaborations have resulted in 40 new presets, including contributions from Kaelin Ellis, known for his work with Lupe Fiasco, Logic and Joyce Wrice, plus genre-blending producer Oh Gosh Leotus who has worked with Doechii, Tink and Blxst.

The update represents Serato’s continued commitment to innovation since their 1999 founding. The company has consistently pushed boundaries in audio software, from their industry-standard Pitch ‘n Time through to revolutionary Serato DJ software and their acclaimed real-time stem-splitting technology Serato Stems.
