Watch a trailer for the DAW's impending update here.

Popular DAW Reason has announced a new update is set to arrive later this year.

Read all the latest product news here.

Version 12, which will be available for users to download on September 1, places an emphasis on improving its Rack functionality, considered by many as being one of the DAW’s most unique aspects.

A blog post to the Reason Studios website details the developer’s plans to give the DAW a high resolution makeover, allowing users to zoom in on selected modules to best suit their setup and experience each virtual module just as they would the real thing.

Reason 12 will also introduce a brand new sampler tool that goes ‘way beyond’ Reason’s current sampling functionality, with a press release hinting at incorporating a legendary time stretch algorithm and saying that “It’s designed to quickly explore and play back sounds in interesting ways—be that from your collection of samples, something recorded on the fly, or even an export of the very track you’re working on.”

Also new to Reason 12 is an overhauled version of Combinator, a powerful sound design tool that interacts with the Reason Rack to provide a simplistic approach to music production.

Combinator will now offer users with additional CV inputs, the ability to create custom interfaces, set up macro controls and change panel sizes, providing a customisation experience unlike any other.

Other updates include an improved Reason browser, weekly sound packs in Reason+ and more, making for a comprehensive update to an already powerful program.

Check out the trailer below. Reason 12 will be released in full on September 1, with Reason+ users being able to receive all updates as they land.
