Based on the synth engine of Mooer’s massive GE300 multi-effects unit (which we reviewed last month), the Mooer E7 boasts seven unique synth sounds, with corresponding LEDs on the side of the pedal to indicate which patch you’re playing. There’s knobs to control Speed, Attack, High Cut and Low Cut, as well as a button to save patches and a Mix knob to blend wet and dry signal.
In the tone department, the Mooer E7 is a bit of a mixed bag. There’s patches reminiscent of warm brass pads and ambient strings, as well as swelling organs and gnarly 8-bit tones. Holding down the footswitch also activates an Arpeggiator to send you straight into trance territory. Importantly, there’s also a micro USB port on the side for future firmware updates, which is an incredibly thoughtful touch from the company as they move forward.
Check out how it sounds in the demo above. It’ll be very interesting to see how this little fella manages to compete with the new Boss and EHX synth pedals – I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
