AMS Neve celebrate 50 years of the 1073 preamp with the new 1073 OPX

AMS Neve have squeezed all the features of the 1073 OPX into a compact 2U rack unit format, allowing for pure convenience in the studio. Each preamp has a mic/line/DI selector switch, a 80Hz cut button and a FNT button, while a digital gain display and adjustment knob allows for easy front panel tweaking.

There’s also buttons to switch on +48v phantom power, as well as options for -25dB pad and Lo Z inputs, plus a headphone out, a mono switch and USB/Dante activation for remote control, which promises to be a bit of a gamechanger. This means you’re able to utilise the OPX as a standalone audio interface with a zero-latency signal path, and you can even buy an optional I/O card that adds mastering-grade digital converters with up to 192kHz/24-bit AD conversion through USB.

On the back, the 1073 OPX features a pair of balanced inputs and outputs via XLR connectors, a a DB25 connector for 1-8 lines, a pair of Dante ports, a USB audio port and a Word Clock. There’s also expansion bays to let you flesh things out even further should you desire.

Obviously, this one’s not aimed at the smaller fish in the pond: AMS Neve are considered the best in the business for a reason, and if this is a direct descendent of the original 1073, it’s bound to be expensive. Nevertheless, it does give punters the chance to obtain that classic 1073 sound straight from the source, and allows for new generations of musicians, producers and engineers to enjoy those legendary tones that have graced so many famous records.
