The So-Cal manufacturers have debuted new variants on the legendary shredder’s Majesty and JP15 models, with each model being fully spec’d with the best electronics and appointments available on the market.
Music Man’s newest Majesty model is a sleek seven-string build, combining a lightweight okoume body with a translucent gloss finish atop of a flame maple shield. There’s also a three-piece neck made with two strips of Honduran mahogany, and a centre comprised of flamed maple joined to the body. In the electronic department, the 2020 Majesty features Petrucci’s signature Dreamcatcher and Rainmaker pickups, as well as a pretty nifty onboard bridge piezo pickup.
This year’s run also sees the inclusion of a lavish Purple Nebula Majesty, boasting a carved, highly-figured quilt maple top over alder sides and a mahogany and maple neck-through center construction. This models feature a backplate signed by Petrucci and a certificate of authenticity, and are limited to only 200 models worldwide. If you’re keen on just a regular Majesty, you can snag one in a range of new finishes, including Pink Sand, Red Phoenix, Smoked Pearl and Ember Glow.
For something slightly more traditional, the 2020 Music Man JP15 offers a lightweight okoume body with a figured maple top, as well as a figured roasted maple neck and fretboard. It’s fitted with a pair of custom DiMarzio Illuminator humbuckers and that classic JP piezo system, as well as a 20db gain boost for when you need to slice through the mix. This one’s available in a colourful Cerulean Paradise finish, and can be purchased as a six or seven string depending on your shredding needs.
Last but not least, the 2020 JP Maple Top showcases some of the quality tonewoods used by the Ernie Ball camp, utilising a Honduran mahogany neck, an East Indian rosewood fretboard and an alder body with a mahogany tone block and figured maple top. These models are fitted with DiMarzio Liquifire and Crunch Lab humbuckers, as well as a piezo bridge and a coil-splitting tone knob.
You can also grab a similar variation with a Koa top and mahogany neck and body, which is complemented with an ebony fretboard for good measure. These guitars are available in either six or seven string configurations, and can be purchased with either a quilt or flame top in a stunning Dragon Blood finish.
