Other prominent nods include Levis Prize Winner Gordon Koang and psych-punk quartet Tropical Fuck Storm, who both netted five nominations, while Amyl and the Sniffers and DRMNGNOW scored four nominations. Other notable artists nominated for awards are Courtney Barnett, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Alex Lahey, Angie MacMahon, Remi, Cool Out Sun and Kaiit.
This year will also see Australian music icons Vika and Linda Bull inducted into the Music Victoria Hall of Fame, as well as revered community radio station PBS 106.7FM, who celebrated their 40th anniversary this year. In a statement recognising both parties acheivements, MVA Executive Producer Patrick Donovan said that “Music Victoria recognises the deep contributions both PBS 106.7FM and Vika and Linda Bull have made to the fabric of Victorian music and culture and is proud to present them both as Inductees to the Music Victoria Awards Hall of Fame in 2019.”
Now in its 15th year, this year’s Music Victoria Awards are set to go down at the Melbourne Recital Centre on Wednesday November 20. From now until Friday November 8, voting is open for the general public to have their say on Best Album, Best Band, Best Song, Best Solo Artist, Best Male Musician, Best Female Musician, Best Breakthrough Act, Best Live Band, Best Small Venue (under 500 capacity), and Best Large Venue (over 500 capacity). Voters will go in the running to win tickets for the coveted event, so you better get crackin’ on the ballot.
