Perfect for hair metal enthusiasts.
Kicking off the year with a bang, Fender have today shared details of their first new launch for 2021: a reissue of the Boxer Series Super Strat.
Following in the footsteps of last year’s success with the Heavy Metal Strat and Lead Series reissues, the Boxer Series Strat was originally released at the height of hair metal in the late ’80s.
This new Made In Japan reissue features many of the same appointments as the original Super Strat, bar the omission of the original’s locking tremolo system.
With a basswood body and maple fretboard with a medium C-shape neck profile, the Boxer model also boasts a 22 fret rosewood fretboard with a 12″ radius and jumbo frets for a slick feel up and down the neck.
In the pickup department, the instrument features two Boxer series humbuckers, with a toggle switch allowing for coil-splitting for both pickups.
There’s also a TBX – or Treble Bass Expander – passive volume control that Fender claims to add “versatile tone shaping, offering sounds not available with standard tone control” to your signal, letting you juice up our output for a fat lead tone.
Elsewhere, the Boxer Strat makes use of a two-point tremolo and all-black hardware, plus Gotoh tuners and rubberised volume and tone knobs, and is available in Sherwood Green Metallic and Inca Silver finishes – very retro!
