Gibson link up with Gene Simmons for new G² signature range

Words by Will Brewster

Launching with the new G² Thunderbird bass this year.

Hot on the heels of their acquisition of Mesa/Boogie, Gibson have now revealed details of a major brand partnership with KISS frontman Gene Simmons.

Under the title G² – for Gibson and Gene, of course! – the two parties have inked a deal that’ll result in a range of electric guitar and bass launches over the span of several years.

The new G² range will not only consist of collaborations with Gibson, but will also expand to consist of G² Epiphone and Kramer models as well as a gamut of other entertainment content, distinguishing it from conventional artist signature arrangements.

Gene Simmons recently took to a press statement to discuss the newly minted partnership, saying that “I have been designing and trademarking bass guitars for decades, and when I heard Gibson’s vision and learned about their creative process, it just made sense for us to join forces to take things to the next level.”

“Gibson is an outstanding company and has earned its place as a leading guitar brand with fans around the world.

“These guitars and basses will all be handmade, with a sound that is off the charts. The design is so beautiful and collectible that they are simply works of art.”

To launch the series, Gibson and G² have debuted the new G² Thunderbird, a modified take on the hard rock workhorse that features an Ebony finish with optional Silver and Blood Red trimmings.

While additional details are set to be revealed throughout 2021, Simmons has hinted that a Flying V bass and guitar might be the next models on the way. Simmons is also set to reveal more about the collaboration in an interview with Gibson brand ambassador Mark Agnessi, which will be aired on January 18.
