Corey Taylor – CMFB… Sides

The Slipknot frontman has added another dimension to his already impressive solo catalogue with this EP which comprises nine unreleased B-sides, covers of tracks that inspired the band, acoustic renditions, and live versions.

The EP includes a stripped-back version of ‘Lunatic Fringe’ by Red Rider, a hypercharged ‘Got To Choose’ by Kiss, a thumping rendition of ‘All This and More’ from the Dead Boys, a “snarling” cover of Metallica’s  ‘Holier Than Thou’, and a preserved version of ‘On The Dark Side’ which John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band performed for the 1981 film Eddie and the Cruisers.

One of the most pleasant surprises of this one was a brilliant take on Eddie Money’s ‘Shakin’ which respected the original while adding a new flavour to it.

Bones and Jones & Folk Bitch Trio – Friendly Neighbour/If I Was a Man

‘If I Was a Man’ was released today to complete the 7” collaboration between the two Melbourne-based groups in what is described as a beautiful reflection of this partnership turned friendship between the two burgeoning bands.

The nine-piece supergroup recorded and produced two singles over one weekend in an old apple cool room turned state of the art studio, Big Fridge Sounds, which is home to sound engineer Jasper Jolley. Jolley doubles as Bones and Jones’ lead singer and explains the latest track “is a bit of a melting pot of how it feels to be in my early 20’s”.

The second single followed ‘Friendly Neighbour’ and both will be celebrated in a 7″ record, and tonight at the Northcote Social Club. You can catch Folk Bitch Trio’s breathtaking vocal harmonies and Bones and Jones’ dynamism and their iconic lap steel there in what is sure to be one hell of a show.

Check out their cover of Talking Heads’ ‘This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)’ below.

Casey Barnes – Light It Up

Light It Up was “painstakingly” crafted over 18 months from a Gold Coast studio, with producers and co-writers MSquared (Michael Delozrenzis and Michael Paynter) and Nashville based singer/songwriters Kaci Brown and Sam Gray via Zoom from around the world – Light It Up is Casey Barnes “at his most confident”.

Where Town of A Million Dreams – which spent more than 77 weeks in the Australian country charts – highlighted Casey’s versatility and diverse abilities in pace and rhythm, Light It Up is “a masterclass in seamlessly blending earworm-worthy pop hooks and stadium worthy country with mature, heartfelt subject matter”.
