The free update for Live 12 owners adds real-time audio streaming across devices, meaningful improvements to stem separation and new possibilities for Push, Move and Note users.

Ableton has just released Live 12.4, introducing new ways to create and collaborate. Available now as a free download for all Live 12 license holders, 12.4 covers significant ground, from a brand-new audio streaming feature to updated classic devices.

The headline addition is Link Audio, which lets devices on the same local network send and receive audio from each other in real time. Other players’ audio shows up directly as an input in Live or Push, no extra hardware or cables needed.

What’s new in Live 12.4

  • Link Audio – Stream audio between compatible devices on a local network in real time, with no additional hardware or manual latency compensation
  • Stem Separation updates – Separate specific time selections within a clip, combine stems into a single clip and track progress with a new unified progress bar (Live Suite)
  • Erosion update – Continuous blending between sine and noise modulation, mono and stereo noise, and real-time spectrum visualisation
  • Chorus-Ensemble update – Greater control over delay time and structure
  • Delay update – New LFO time modes and waveforms
  • Learn View – A new guided learning experience replacing Help View, with short videos, written explanations and lesson tracking
  • Push updates – Link Audio support, MIDI mapping from Push Standalone and more M4L device parameters in Device View
  • Move 2.0 and Note 2.0 – Audio tracks, Link Audio, and access to Auto Shift and Erosion

Stem Separation, which arrived in Live Suite with version 12.3, gets a more flexible treatment in 12.4. You can now separate a specific time selection within a clip rather than processing the entire thing every time, saving a lot of unnecessary rendering. There’s also the option to combine selected stems into a single clip rather than generating a new track for each, and a unified progress bar now tracks the full operation at once rather than per stem.

Three devices have also been updated. Erosion now blends between sine and noise modulation, adds mono and stereo noise options, and includes a real-time spectrum visualiser. Chorus-Ensemble offers more control over delay time and structure, and Delay adds new LFO time modes and waveforms.

Learn View, which combines short videos with written explanations and lets you tick off lessons as you go, has replaced Help View.

Push 2 and Push 3 users get Link Audio support and new MIDI mapping tools, including the ability to create and edit controller mappings directly from Push Standalone. Move and Note both get major updates too – Move 2.0 and Note 2.0 bring audio tracks, Link Audio and two effects from Live: Auto Shift and Erosion.
