Vater has officially welcomed Dom Famularo’s Pad Stick into its product lineup, making the stick available globally for the first time through the company’s distribution network.

Dom modelled it after a vintage stick he used while studying with the legendary Joe Morello, and it’s been a fixture of his teaching practice ever since. Built from Sugar Maple, it runs 16½” in length with a 0.675″ grip, a drastic taper and a large ball tip. That specific combination of grip size, length, taper and tip shape is what makes it so responsive on a pad. The ball tip produces a clear, articulate sound that makes every stroke easy to hear and evaluate.
One of the most respected drum educators in the world, Dom spent over 40 years as a sought-after private instructor and currently teaches more than 1,000 students from over 20 countries at his WizDOM Drumshed studio in New York. The Pad Stick has been central to that work, used across all skill levels for hand and grip technique, rudiments, stick strokes and warm-up exercises. Dom also used it to strengthen and stretch his own hands and keep his chops sharp between teaching commitments, which says something about how much he rates it.
Previously available only through Dom’s own channels, having it in Vater’s range means drummers anywhere can now get hold of it. For students working on the fundamentals, it’s a stick built with exactly that purpose in mind.
