Shergold has launched the Telstar Standard 12-String, designed in the UK by luthier Patrick James Eggle and built to do more than chime along in the background.
Electric 12-strings run deep in Shergold’s history. The double-neck 12-string guitar and bass the company built in the 1970s ended up in the hands of Genesis’ Mike Rutherford, and the new Telstar carries that forward. It keeps the harmonic shimmer the instruments are known for, while leaning towards players after expansive textures, atmospheric parts and octave-driven riffs rather than straight jangle.

The build pairs a solid poplar body with a maple neck and laurel fingerboard, aimed at steady playability. Its fixed bridge uses a 6-string through-body and 6-string through-bridge arrangement with 12 individually adjustable saddles, which helps hold tuning and keeps intonation accurate across each string pair – often the tricky part on a 12. Twin FilterSonic humbuckers handle pickup duties, with the clarity and output to suit driven tones as much as clean chime, and the controls stay simple with a three-position selector switch, master volume and tone.
