Pioneer team up with Virgil Abloh for see-through DJ controller

The collaboration, which has been prominently teased by Abloh in recent months, is part of an exhibit the cultural kingpin is curating at the Figures Of Speech museum in Chicago, and will be released under the “Pioneer DJ c/o Virgil Abloh” imprint.

In a statement heralding the release, Abloh states his work aims to create “a means to give a new look and feel to the industry standard of the CDJ and DJM I aimed to design a see thru and non-labeled rendition of the classic models to inspire a different sound while DJing. And perhaps a new way for music technology and human interaction to equal a different result.”

Keen eyes and ears will know that Abloh’s a bit of an avid music fan, particularly within the realms of electronic and hip-hop, so this collaboration is really no surprise. In addition to minting the coveted high-end streetwear brand Off White, Abloh is currently serving as the Mens Artistic Director at Louis Vuitton, and has previously served as Creative Director for fellow Chicagoan Kanye West, designing the opulent album cover for his 2011 collaborative effort with Jay-Z Watch The Throne

Earlier in the year, Abloh caused a bit of a stir in the gear community when he debuted a collaboration between Pioneer and Teenage Engineering at Coachella
