Essentially combining the best aspects of their 2013 monophonic Sub Phatty and 2016’s coveted Subsequent 37 paraphonic synth, the Sub 25 is Moog’s most compact unit to date, and offers a perfect balance between vintage vibe and modern practicality. It boasts three analogue oscillators, which can be synced in unison or split in order to enjoy two note paraphonic textures.
There’s five LFO types on offer – Triangle, Square, Sawtooth, Ramp, Sample & Hold – and that classic Moog ladder filter has been adjusted to boost harmonic saturation and analogue compression for a gritty, authentic sound. You’re also able to choose between 6/12/18/24 dB per Octave Slopes, letting you handle everything from funky Bernie Worrell leads to rumbling sub bass.
In the connectivity department, the Moog Sub 25 features four CV inputs to bring in modulation from other sources and hook up to other gear, while MIDI I/O and USB MIDI lets you hook up other devices or your laptop to write patches or send signals. The Sub 25 also comes with an intuitive software editor, letting you edit and share presets with other Sub 25 users and enjoy full MIDI implementation.
