Gibson eye a new market with the G-45 acoustic series

Made in the same Montana, USA plant as the Hummingbird, J-45 and J-2000 acoustics, the G-45 Studio and Standard models both feature Gibson’s classic Round Shoulder dreadnaught design, as well as a range of modern appointments such as dovetail neck joints, slimmer bodies and a more comfortable neck profile.

What makes these new models stand out from the rest is Gibson’s interesting wood choice; Sitka spruce remains in use on the tops of both models, US walnut comprises the back and sides of the G-45 series, while the neck is made out of Sipo mahogany (also known as Utile for you woodworms). Despite sharing similar specs, the G-45 Studio appears to be the more affordable model of the bunch with its nitro satin finish and walnut fretboard and bridge, while Gibson have utilised a Richlite fretboard and gloss finish on the Standard.

The Gibson G-45 Standard and Studio acoustics also feature Mini Grover Rotomatic tuners to keep everything on point, while a Fishman Sonitone Piezo tucked into the soundhole make both models viable for the live performer.
