Fender reveal the Phil Lynott Precision Bass

The Custom Shop model, created by none other than Senior Master Builder Jon Cruz, acts as Fender’s latest entry into their 2019 Custom Shop Mid-Year Collection. Reflecting on the creation of the instrument, Cruz said in a statement that “Thin Lizzy was always my favourite band growing up… After finishing up the Gary Moore limited edition artist signature model, it just made sense that Phil should be honoured as well, since he used his trusty 1978 Precision Bass throughout his career. This project is a very special tribute to a fallen hero, and to fans, like myself, who Phil inspired to play music.”

Fitted with a custom mirrored pickguard, the level of attention and detail that’s gone into the creation of the Phil Lynott P-Bass is quite incredible. It’s got a two-piece select ash body with a rift-sawn maple neck, as well as a standard 7.25″ radius rosewood fretboard with 20 jumbo frets to thump out the grooves. In the electronics department, there’s a single hand-wound ’78 P Bass pickup, with Fender keeping true to the design of Lynott’s original instrument.

Elsewhere, the Phil Lynott P-Bass bears a sillhoutte of the man himself upon the chrome neckplate, as well as a bone nut, round string tree, ’70s style tuners and Dunlop strap locks. The bass comes in a deluxe custom Anvil hardcase, which is filled with a custom made leather strap, studded wristband and even a pair of mirrored aviators – perfect for rock ‘n rollers.
