Fender expands John Osborne Collection with new signature pickup set

Words by Mixdown

The custom-voiced pickups join a road-tested B-Bender Telecaster in a growing lineup built around the Brothers Osborne guitarist.

Fender has introduced the John Osborne Telecaster Pickup Set, adding a standalone pickup option to its John Osborne Collection alongside the guitarist’s existing signature B-Bender Telecaster.

Voiced to replicate Osborne’s own tone, the pickups are designed to deliver sparkling highs, prominent mids, and tight bass response — built, as Osborne puts it, to “cut through the mix.” The set uses beveled Alnico five magnets and Formvar-coated magnet wire for added brightness and dynamics, paired with flush-mount polepieces for vintage-style string-to-string blending. An open-coil neck pickup adds extra high-end sparkle, while wax potting helps resist feedback and protect the internal wiring.

Construction leans into vintage detailing, with period-correct cloth wire and fibre bobbin construction underpinning Osborne’s modern, hard-driving voice. DC resistance sits at 6.26k for the neck pickup and 8.2k for the bridge, with inductance rated at 2.58H and 4.6H respectively. Installation hardware is included.

The pickup set follows the John Osborne Telecaster, which introduced Fender’s first in-house-designed B String Bender — a mechanism that raises the B string a full step for pedal steel-inspired bends. That guitar closely replicates Osborne’s own 1968 Telecaster, right down to its Road Worn Olympic White finish and custom pickguard.

Osborne, one half of Grammy-winning duo Brothers Osborne, described the pickups’ character as sitting somewhere between a Tele and a Strat pickup. With the new pickup set now available separately, players can bring that same voicing to their own Telecaster-style builds without needing the full signature model.
