Among the Performer inductees for 2021 include Jay-Z and the Foo Fighters, who were both nominated after their first year of eligibility (acts are only eligible to be nominated 25 years after the release of their debut album).

The Foo Fighters’ induction marks frontman Dave Grohl’s second time being included in the Hall of Fame following Nirvana’s 2014 induction, with the band making light of the induction on social media by joking ‘Holy shit! The guitar player from The Germs (Pat Smear) is in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!!!’.

’70s studio boffin Todd Rundgren has also been added to the Hall of Fame after several years of being eligible, as have seminal new wave icons The Go-Go’s.

Other inductees into the Hall of Fame for 2021 include Tina Turner and Carole King, who have each also been previously inducted with Ike Tuner and Gerry Goffin respectively.

Additionally, the Hall of Fame have detailed a number of other artists who have been inducted under different categories, with this year seeing techno pioneers Kraftwerk, jazz-funk/proto-rap legend Gil Scott-Heron and early blues guitarist Charley Patton being granted the Early Influence Award.

LL Cool J and Kraftwerk’s recognition by the Hall of Fame comes after several instances of both parties being snubbed in the Performer category, while Gil Scott-Heron’s induction comes off the back of significant critical reevaluation of the Chicago artist’s influence over the past decade.

Furthermore, hip-hop trailblazer LL Cool J, ‘Fifth Beatle’ Billy Preston and shredding hero Randy Rhoads have also been announced as recipients of the Music Excellence Award, while Clarence Avant, a US music executive affiliated with Quincy Jones and Bill Withers, has been honoured with the Ahmet Ertegun Award for 2021.

Artists to have been nominated for the 2021 Hall of Fame, but not received inductions, include the likes of Fela Kuti, Kate Bush, Rage Against The Machine, Devo, Iron Maiden, New York Dolls, Chaka Khan, Mary J. Blige and Dione Warwick.

This year’s ceremony will go down on October 30 at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse arena in Ohio, and will air on television at a later date.
