Words by Will Brewster

Check out all the nominations for this year's awards.

The Australian Recording Industry Association has unveiled its nominees for the 2020 ARIA Awards, spotlighting the contributions and achievements of Aussie artists during one of most strenuous years for the music industry on record.

This year’s nominees are led by Sydney surf pop sensations Lime Cordiale, who bagged a commendable eight ARIA Award Nominations off the back of this year’s 14 Steps To A Better You.

On top of being nominated for Album of the Year, Best Pop Release and Best Pop Group, the Limebach brothers have also copped a nod for Song Of The Year for their standout ear-worm ‘Robbery’, capping off what’s been a sensational 2020 for the lads.

Meanwhile, Tame Impala have also received seven nominations for the 2020 awards, with Kevin Parker going up in the ruck for technical categories such as Producer of the Year and Engineer of the Year as well as Best Pop Release, Best Group, Best Rock Release and Album Of The Year for Tame Impala’s fourth full-length, The Slow Rush.

Other artists to collect multiple nominations include Melbourne-based rapper Sampa The Great, with her sensational debut album The Return marking a seismic shift for Australian hip-hop and attracting mass acclaim around the globe.

Unsurprisingly, she’s gotten six nominations for this year’s event, including Album of the Year, Best Female Artist, Best Hip Hop Release, Best Australian Live Act, Best Independent Release and Best Video presented by YouTube Music.

Elsewhere, Miiesha’s has been commended with five nominations for her debut Nyraaringu, with Sydney’s DMA’s also receiving five nominations off the back of The Glow. Violent Soho and Ruel scored four nods for their respective releases over the past twelve months, while Amy Shark, Archie Roach, Jessica Mauboy, The Teskey Brothers, Tones and I, Troye Sivan, Cold Chisel, Baker Boy and The Kid LAROI each received three nominations.

ARIA CEO Dan Rosen applauded each of the 2020 ARIA Awards nominees for their resilience and dedication towards their craft in one of the toughest years on record for the industry, saying in a statement that “It’s been a year we will never forget. Our industry has taken a hit, but the creativity of our local artists has not. Our artists have shown great resilience and their music has helped many Australians get through these tough times.

“I congratulate each of this year’s ARIA Nominees, who make up a remarkable list of Australian artists who have made a difference this year. I also want to congratulate all the Fine Arts and Artisan and nominees. The music industry is a team effort, and their role is vital in making our music industry robust.”
