The beloved crate-digging fest, which usually takes place in April, was postponed twice this year due to the outbreak of COVID-19, with organisers moving the event to June before making the decision to split the festival across three Saturdays in August, September and October.
Now that the August event is right around the corner, Record Store Day Australia has revealed a bunch of the exclusive releases available at the first ‘RSD Drop’, and boy are they tempting.
Notable overseas releases include some special reissues of beloved long-players from David Bowie and The Cure, including limited versions of Seventeen Seconds, Bloodflowers, Changes and I’m Only Dancing. There’s also a sweet 2 x 7″ Black Sabbath release that includes pressings of ‘The Wizard’ and ‘Paranoid’, as well as a 10th anniversary edition of Caribou’s Swim, Primal Scream’s Loaded EP, Tyler The Creator’s Cherry Bomb, a 1982 Peel Session from New Order and more.
There’s also a gamut of great Australian releases up for grabs, many of which are 7″ editions of Like A Versions from prominent artists like Ocean Alley, Alex Lahey, Angus & Julia Stone, Flume and Vance Joy – and yes, that Denzel Curry ‘Bulls On Parade’ cover is up for grabs too. The Teskey Brothers will also be releasing Live At The Forum on coloured vinyl to celebrate the occasion, while Cub Sport will be sharing a hand numbered 7″ of their 333 EP from last year.
With so much on offer here and a whole lot more planned for September and October, it certainly doesn’t look like vinyl buffs will be missing out on their share of wax this year.
