ARIA announces recording grants for emerging First Nations artists

The program will see five grants, each valued at $18,500, being made available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians. These grants will help provide artists with mentorship from industry professionals, who will advise and help the recipients to develop effective marketing and promotion for their music.

The grants will expand on the success of the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA) and the Australia Council’s pre-existing program, which has helped support over 40 new recordings since beginning in 2013. In a statement shared today, ARIA note that the intention of the new grant program is to assist in expanding “the diversity of Australian voices as well as developing the capacity and professional capability of First Nations music industry aspirants.”

“ARIA is proud to announce this grant, designed to help amplify First Nations voices in our industry,” ARIA CEO Dan Rosen said in a statement to the press today.

“I look forward to hearing the music that will be created as the result of these grants, and also to work towards a more diverse and inclusive Australian music industry.”

Further details regarding the program are set to be announced in coming weeks, with the grants expected to be awarded later in 2020. Keep your eyes peeled to our channels for any updates.
