Bark24 | Dyn v1.1 adds auto-gain, group editing and more

FSK Audio has released Bark24 | Dyn v1.1, a major usability update to its 24-band psychoacoustic dynamics processor developed with Pro Tools creator Mark Jeffery.

Developed by FSK Audio in collaboration with Mark Jeffery, the original designer and primary architect of Pro Tools, Bark24 | Dyn is built around the psychoacoustic Bark scale, which splits incoming audio into 24 perceptually meaningful frequency bands rather than arbitrary divisions. The idea is that dynamics processing should reflect how we actually hear – and that opens up a level of tonal control that conventional multiband tools simply can’t replicate.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

“Processing audio using the Bark scale enables independent dynamics processing of the various frequency regions of an audio signal. Traditional dynamics processing applies a single gain scalar across all frequencies, which has clear limitations. By dividing the spectrum into perceptually meaningful zones and managing them independently, you can shape the character of a sound in ways that were not previously possible,” says Jeffery.

Version 1.1 adds several meaningful updates for day-to-day use. Auto-gain and output adaptation intelligently respond to incoming signal levels and processing intensity, while group editing lets you make coordinated adjustments across multiple bands simultaneously. An output limiter and improved solo and mute functionality round out the update, making it faster to dial in results and easier to audition what each band is actually doing.

Six-time Emmy Award-winning composer, producer and engineer BZ Lewis has been using it, stating, “The way Bark24 | Dyn handles transients and EQ in terms of dynamics within a musical context is unlike anything I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen plenty. I didn’t know what I was missing before giving this plug-in a try.”

The plug-in covers dynamic EQ, multiband compression, expansion, gating and experimental sound design across AAX, VST3 and AU formats on both macOS and Windows.
