Aiode stays a standalone product, with its models trained only on audio the musicians behind them agreed to license.

BandLab Technologies has bought Aiode, an AI music studio that builds its models entirely from licensed audio. The deal makes Aiode the third platform under the Singapore company, alongside BandLab and Cakewalk.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

Aiode, founded in 2022, works differently to a standard DAW. Creators start from a blank project or import their own audio, then pick from a roster of virtual musicians and style-based models to play across the track. Performances are directed section by section, and alternate takes can be generated for a single part without touching the rest of the song. Once a project is done, it comes out as separate stems or a full mix.

Every piece of audio used to train Aiode’s models is licensed and traceable back to its source, covering recordings from professional musicians and producers along with other audio cleared for training. Where a model is based on a specific musician, it’s built with them and under their direction, so the result stays close to how they actually play.

“Aiode shares BandLab Technologies’ ethos of innovation and giving music makers every opportunity to find success. Since Aiode was founded in 2022, we’ve worked side by side with professional musicians to create technology that respects their artistry and keeps them involved in how their musical identity is represented. BandLab Technologies gives us the opportunity to bring that approach to more creators,” says Idan Dobrecki, CEO and Co-Founder of Aiode.

For existing users, little changes day to day. Aiode carries on as a standalone product with uninterrupted service, its musician partnerships and licensing agreements stay in place, and co-founders Idan Dobrecki and Blue Dobrecky keep running it as CEO and COO. Native audio recording and further DAW features are on the cards for later versions, though timing hasn’t been set.
