Among other changes for the digital 303 clone
Mouse and keyboard based acid fans are in for a treat, as the legendary 303 emulator ABL3 receives a much needed upgrade. This 3.3.0 update adds the distortion unit from their ABL2 unit, along with M1 support, three audio engines to choose from and more!
What you need to know:
- ABL3 has been received an update to version 3.3.0, its first update in two years.
- New features include three switchable audio engines, distortion, drive, shuffle and pattern import.
- In addition to this, ABL3 is now supported on Apple Silicon M1 Macs.

Increasingly, now more than ever, music producers are looking to the past for inspiration for the future. No synthesiser has had a larger effect on music since the Roland TB-303 was released in the 80s, marking the start of Acid House among many other dance music genres.
One of the first digital plugin emulations was created by AudioRealism, a Swedish based audio software company. The ABL2 sent shockwaves throughout for its accuracy to the actual 303, and they stepped forward when they announced the ABL3 seven years ago.
This update for their most popular software adds the distortion and drive circuits from ABL2, features that have been sorely missed since the upgrade to version 3. Everyone loves an overdriven 303 right?
There’s now three separate audio engines to choose from, which can be swapped in and out at will whilst playing, as well as a setting for defects in accent and/or slide parameters.
Utilising MPC style swing, you can now add pattern shuffle to your 303 lines, adding more groove and functionality. Separate bass and treble eq controls have been added to the setup page of the ABL3 too.
Along with this, the VST is now compatible with M1 Macs, a bonus for new Apple users.
