API’s signature analog sound features the same circuit design of the 3124V,the 312MV, the 312, 512V, and the 512C mic preamps, while also containing the familiar 2520 op-amps found in their classic range, while of course adding some neat features.

A rear XLR input is additional to the combi XLR/jack input on the front panel which can be alternated between via a selectable switch, allowing you to connect a couple of mics or a mic and guitar without repatching.

Also gracing the front panel are the usual high-pass filter (50Hz), pad (-20d), +48V phantom power, and polarity inversion switches.

Saturating the transformer is possible with a switchable 3:1 output transformer tap and two analog VU meters with a separate peak LED.
