Markbass is now shipping its Yellow Series to five strings with the MB5 Yellow JB, a five-string players have been asking for since the original range first landed.

The Yellow Series launched in 2024 as a four-string and built a following quickly, and the MB5 features what made the original work – the same comfortable neck and low action. With a poplar body and cut to the familiar JB offset double-cutaway shape, the MB5 is light enough for a long set, without putting too much weight on your shoulders.
A bolt-on maple neck carries a smooth “C” profile and a laurel fingerboard, with a 34-inch scale, 20 medium-small frets and plain dot inlays to help you find your way across the fifth string. Two J-style single-coils run through a simple passive circuit, with a volume for each pickup and a master tone. Blending the two covers ground for fingerstyle or slap, and because the circuit is passive, there’s no battery to go flat halfway through a gig. The signature Markbass Yellow finish is set against a black pickguard, and every unit is individually inspected in Italy before it ships. It’s set up with low action out of the box, and comes with gig bag and strap.
The MB5 Yellow JB makes a great first five-string for players stepping up from four, or a dependable road bass for anyone who looking for a reliable, five-string workhorse.
