PRS launches the Tekton family of guitars, with four models and new Stylus pickups

Words by Mixdown

The four models share a mango top, stainless steel frets, a 16″ radius and PRS’s new Stylus pickups.

PRS has launched the Tekton family, a new line of four guitars built around the modern features players have been asking for: thinner necks, longer scale lengths, flatter fretboards, stainless steel frets and pickups designed to work with digital rigs. PRS describes it as a flag planted for a whole new family of guitars, not just a new model.

The Tekton marks a clear shift for the Maryland brand, which has long been best known for models like the Custom 24. Each guitar uses a new body shape that sits somewhere between the Custom 24 and Vela designs, and with Floyd Rose and seven-string options on the list, the family puts PRS in direct competition with the dedicated shred and metal specialists. The new Stylus humbuckers reflect how many players now lean on amp modellers for their tone: they use Alnico 5 magnets and have a flatter output than most pickups, which is designed to keep notes clear at high gain through both tube amps and digital rigs.

The Tekton combines a lightweight, sculpted body, easier upper-fret access and the family’s thin-but-substantial neck carve, aimed at long practice sessions, studio work and live shows. The name comes from the ancient Greek word for an artisan or builder, which PRS says reflects the philosophy behind the guitar: thoughtful craftsmanship combined with modern performance.

The four models

  • Tekton: hardtail bridge
  • Tekton T: two-point tremolo
  • Tekton SVN: seven-string model
  • Tekton “Floyd”: Floyd Rose 1000 Series tremolo

Shared specs

All four have a mango top, mahogany back, maple neck and Indian ebony fretboard, apart from the Tekton “Floyd”, which has an alder body. Modern appointments include:

  • Scale length: 25.5″, or 26.5″ on the seven-string
  • Fretboard radius: 16″
  • Frets: stainless steel
  • Neck carve: Modern “D”
  • Pickups: the new PRS Stylus pickups

Stylus pickups

The Stylus pickups were developed specifically for the family. PRS says they’re voiced for articulation, clarity and character, with strong note definition whether played clean or overdriven, through a tube amp or a digital modelling platform. Every pickup position, humbucking and split, is designed to be equally usable.
