The update also brings a new sound pack, a raft of stability fixes and improvements across Flex, automation, the Mixer and more.

Apple has released Logic Pro 12.3 for macOS and version 3.3 for iPadOS, the largest update since Logic Pro 12 landed at the start of the year.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

One of the headline updates is Beat Breaker. The beat-slicing and playback manipulation plugin – which lets you chop up audio in real time and rearrange, repeat and pitch-shift slices on the fly – now includes filter and resonance modes with high and low pass filtering per slice, a panning mode for positioning individual slices left and right, and a randomisation system covering all modes or individual ones, with controls for probability and intensity. A Randomize popover menu has also been added to the plugin itself.

Alchemy, Logic’s deep synthesis and sample-manipulation instrument, gets two additions: granular sync mode for Sample Alchemy and formant shifting. Granular sync lets you lock granular synthesis – a technique that breaks audio into tiny fragments and reassembles them – to the project tempo, while formant shifting adjusts the resonant character of a sound independently of its pitch, useful for vocal processing and sound design. A new sound pack accompanies the update, with loops, one-shots and field recordings processed through the new granular sync engine.

Beyond the new features, 12.3 is a substantial stability and fixes release. Eight separate crash fixes are included, covering scenarios across Smart Tempo, the Step Sequencer, Alchemy’s additive editor, Audio Unit scanning and a handful of other edge cases that could cause Logic to quit unexpectedly.

An issue where recorded audio could land significantly late when using built-in audio is now resolved. Flex, Logic’s audio time-stretching and pitch-correction system, also gets fixes around Flex Pitch editing and grouped track behaviour, plus a new Smart Tempo pop-up in the Region Inspector for using Flex without relying on file tempo information.

Automation now draws stepped lines with consistent thickness, fixes CC64 recording behaviour and produces more predictable results when stretching automation with a region. On the Mixer side, Send levels now match the source correctly and I/O assignments above channel 128 are retained. Sends route signal from a channel strip to an aux or effects bus, so accurate level matching here matters for anyone running parallel processing or effects returns.

Hiding and unhiding tracks is now significantly faster, Smart Tempo hint changes apply automatically without a manual apply step, and the Duplicate Track button can now be configured to duplicate with or without content.

Logic Pro 12.3 is available now as a free update.
