The Berlin-based synth maker's latest module distills the hands-on philosophy of the Komplex Sequencer into a focused single-channel design with an expanded quantizer and full CV control.
KOMA Elektronik has revealed the Monoplex – a 16-step analog and MIDI sequencer for Eurorack that puts microtonal melody and modulation at the centre of the design. Inspired by the company’s Komplex Sequencer, it takes the same performance-driven approach and focuses it into a single-channel format at 42HP, so it’s compact enough to fit into most builds without dominating the case.

The standout feature is the quantizer, which goes well beyond the chromatic, major and minor modes you’d find on most sequencers. Monoplex supports the Wilson MTS-ESP scale system, gives you three user-definable scales with on-the-fly editing, and lets you upload your own scales via a browser-based web interface – accessible on PC, laptop or mobile via SysEx. You can also feed scales in live via MIDI from an attached keyboard, or define the active scale in real time using MIDI-note capture mode. For those working with microtonal MIDI synthesisers, Monoplex transmits pitch information via Note On and Pitch Bend data.
Every core parameter is voltage-controllable. First step, sequence length, skip step, gate length, repeat step, glide, play mode, transpose and divisions all accept CV, which means sequences can shift and evolve in ways that stay musically coherent without repeating themselves. The output covers CV, gate and trigger alongside MIDI note and CC, with selectable output ranges of 2V, 5V and 10V and unipolar or bipolar CV output depending on what the patch calls for.
Sync options are thorough, with clock input and output, start and end triggers, reset and pause trigger inputs, and full MIDI sync master and slave capability with start and stop support. One-shot mode, swing and user interface colour changes round out the feature set.
For Eurorack musicians who work in non-Western tuning systems, experimental harmony or generative melodic systems, the Monoplex offers a level of scale flexibility that most sequencers don’t come close to. For all musicians, it’s a deeply patchable sequencer with plenty of hands-on control to keep things interesting.
