Walrus Audio launches the Highpoint analog optical compressor

The foundation is a carefully tuned optical detection circuit designed to deliver smooth, gluing compression that lets notes bloom and chords breathe without killing the responsiveness of your playing. Six dedicated knobs cover Threshold, Ratio, Attack, Release, Output and Makeup Gain, giving you enough range to dial in anything from a subtle always-on polish to more assertive dynamic shaping. A Blend control adds true parallel compression, so you can retain your dry signal underneath while the compressor adds sustain and harmonic depth on top.

Low-end is another consideration. A Sidechain High-Pass Filter keeps the bottom end defined even when the compression is pushed harder, which is an important detail. Aggressive compression and a flabby low end tend to go hand in hand, and the Highpoint addresses that directly. A 10-LED VU meter keeps you across Input, Output and Gain Reduction in real time, so you’re never guessing what the pedal is actually doing.
