Chord extraction, lyric transcription, and a beginner-friendly recording mode headline LUNA's latest update.
Universal Audio has released a major update to LUNA, its DAW, adding new AI-powered creative tools alongside a simplified new workflow called LUNA Play.
According to Universal Audio, LUNA Studio’s update introduces smart tools including Lyric Transcription and Chord Extraction, both powered by Moises, along with Audio-to-MIDI conversion and six-track stem separation.

The stem separation tool allows users to split any song into six tracks, which can then have plug-ins added or be converted into MIDI. The Chord Extraction tool extracts chords from any polyphonic instrument, allowing ARA plug-ins such as Celemony Tonalic to follow along. Lyric Transcription transcribes vocals and lets users navigate a session using lyrics rather than waveforms, while Audio-to-MIDI converts any audio track to MIDI, either to replace it entirely or to layer alongside virtual instruments.
The update also adds two new ARA plug-ins: Celemony Tonalic Essential, which lets session musicians play along with a track, and Dreamtonic Synthesizer V Studio 2 Core, aimed at creating realistic vocal toplines and harmonies.
LUNA Free, meanwhile, gains its own new features, headlined by LUNA Play — a streamlined recording mode that automatically detects the connected instrument, sets levels, and suggests presets using UAD plug-ins. LUNA Free also receives four-track stem separation for splitting songs to jam along with or sample, along with a new Piano Roll for MIDI editing with pencil, paint, and scale-aware tools.
Universal Audio says a number of highly requested features have also been added across LUNA, including folder tracks, strip silence, and Click Track Automation.
