The C-80 is a unidirectional condenser microphone that inherits essence of its predecessors, as well as the microphone capsule used in the C-100 and using the same material as the C-800G for the diaphragm.
The two-part metallic body actively prevents acoustic vibration with its ‘Noise Elimination Construction’, resulting in low noise and clear sound, while the dual diaphragm configuration suppresses sound characteristics changes with distance for stable recording and distribution.
Sony describes the mid-low frequency as “powerful and rich”, while there is a low-cut filter and -10dB pad switch for added headroom
The C-800G is a classic ‘90s hip-hop and R&B vocal microphone which the likes of Dr. Dre and Mariah Carey popularised.
It is also known as ‘The Uzi’ in rap circles because of its unique heat sink but it is not limited to the genre, with Sony originally building the mic to be a modern alternative to the old standards like the U47, C12 in the pop, rock, and country studios of Los Angeles and Nashville.
The mic is now being made available in the US and Canada.
