Sigur Rós’ new album “ÁTTA” is available everywhere now and making the album spanned as much of the world as their fanbase does.
The album was recorded in the band’s Sundlaugin studio in Iceland, Abbey Road in the UK and a number of studios across the US, and harnesses the euphoric, cascading and evolving sound of Sigur Rós like never before. Since the mid to late 90s, Sigur Rós have released a consistently expanding and morphing body of work, spanning decades, lifetimes and a myriad of experiences. The album follows the release of the first single, Blóðberg, which received critical acclaim. “ÁTTA” translates to ‘eight’, being Sigur Rós’ eighth full length album, and a culmination of years of work, performing, writing and touring.

“ÁTTA” is tens songs of fleeting bliss, Sigur Rós frontman, Jón Þór “Jónsi” Birgisson, explaining that both the band and “ÁTTA” exist purely in the moment.
“When we do this, we always talk about each album as if it might be the last… we’re always thinking about climate change, doom-scrolling and going to hell. The world felt a bit bleak making this album, but maybe there is hope. When there is darkness, there is light.”
The album was produced by the band and Paul Corley, a producer and sound artist from the United States. While the sound of Sigur Rós has evolved from post-rock through to all-out, expansive atmosphere, “ÁTTA” leans heavily into orchestral, Jónsi describing the music as “sparse, floaty and beautiful.”
The release is accompanied by touring throughout the US and Europe, accompanied by London Contemporary Orchestra, who feature heavily on the studio album, throughout Europe, and Northern American Touring being accompanied by the Wordless Music Orchestra in Northern America. Physical copies of “ÁTTA” are available from September 1.
