Radial Engineering
Words by Jack O'Shea Ayres

Just a short drive from Vancouver, Port Coquitlam, BC houses Radial Engineering, a music equipment company with a longstanding reputation for bringing reliable and tough-as-nails products to the music world, where their gear is seen on stage and in studios worldwide.

As the maker of some of the best pro audio gear on the market, Radial Engineering and their equipment has graced the stages and studios of some of music’s biggest names to the likes of Bruce Springsteen, AC/DC, Paul McCartney, Al Schmitt and Elliot Sheiner. In business since the early nineties, the company is responsible for what are considered two of the best direct boxes on the market, the JDI and the J48, and they’ve got the guts to prove it.

The high-class music equipment company recently ran a direct box contest inviting users to send in photos of their road-tested Radial Engineering DIs. With the reputation of producing gear which is built like a tank, it’s no surprise photos of beat up and vintage JDIs and J48s still in full working order began flooding in.

“I purchased my J48 in 2011, since then it has had a permanent place in my road case. I never play a gig or rehearse without it. It has always been the most reliable piece of gear I use in all the gigs over the years and always gets the signal of my bass across the way it was meant to sound.”

Simplistic yet so aesthetically pleasing in their design, the JDIs and J48s can go a long way and hold their own on and off-stage, with many musos around the world pushing the boundaries of their capabilities.

“I’ve had it a long time. Countless shows and bands have used them and never had any issues. From being stomped on dragged around the stage it has never failed me. Working as a Live Sound Engineer I trust JDI and J48s to make the show happen every time.”

– Alex G

While the paint might fade on some users products, the sound remains the same.

“I’m gonna have to say that this guy has been rocking for close to 20 years & upwards of 2000-3000 shows if I had to guess. My J48 is my tried and true for my acoustic guitar. It just sounds amazing.”

– Patrick M

With a humble 100 employees, Radial Engineering prides itself on in-house research and development, with products made available through an extensive network of dealers and distributors around the world.

Tried and tested, Radial engineering prove their DIs can withstand the test of time and remain a favourite for musos around the globe.
