Fender unveil Duff McKagan Deluxe Precision Bass

Combining a Precision Bass body with a sleek Jazz Bass neck, the new Fender Duff McKagan Deluxe Precision Bass comes in both Black and sleek Pearl White finishes, with the latter reminiscent of the ’80s Jazz Bass Special favoured by McKagan in the ’80s. The bass features a black painted, modern C-shaped quartersawn maple neck with a bound rosewood fretboard and pearloid block inlays, as well as the number 12 embossed into the twelfth fret of the instrument.

Designed with the live performer in mind, the Fender Signature McKagan Deluxe Precision Bass also includes a Hipshot Bass Xtender for instant Drop-D tuning. The bass also features a unique Fender TBXTM treble/bass expander tone circuit, allowing users to precisely shape the tone of the instrument’s vintage style P-Bass and Seymour Duncan STKJ2B Jazz pickups. Other touches include a Pure Vintage ’70s bridge and Duff’s signature skull and crossbones neck plate, as well as a deluxe gig bag.

In a statement released today, McKagan discussed how the signature Deluxe Precision Bass came about, as well as highlighting the formidable legacy of past Fender players – “The original bass I bought was the only one I took on the road for the Appetite for Destruction tour,” McKagan said. “We had a backup bass, but we didn’t need it. At some point we went to get another bass, but we couldn’t find a Jazz Special, so we went to Fender. To flash forward, be a Fender artist and have my own signature bass with this company is incredible. Fender is James Jamerson, John Paul Jones and it’s the bass that all the greats played. I’m still kind of in awe, and I don’t take it for granted.”
