The new auralComp allows up to 16 channels of compressions (i.e. 8 stereo pairs) plus a final brickwall limiter, to treat multiple stems of audio rather than a more conventional stereo processing on your mix.
Atmos and immersive audio, while currently a hot topic, seem to be a format that will stick. Where 5.1 Surround sound required the end user to have a system to playback the Surround files, immersive audio folds back into stereo with more pleasing results, allowing the end user to listen on whatever they have available, from mono Bluetooth speakers to limitless atmos setups. Enter, PSP Audioware Auralcomp.

It makes sense for audio professionals to jump onto the train, and while a lot of our tools are built for stereo, brands like PSP Audioware are beginning to change this. Developed with Ronald Prent, whose credits include Depeche Mode, Iron Maiden, Rammstein, Def Leppard, and Celine Dion to name a few, the PSP Audioware auralComp is the first in a range of plugins created in a partnership alongside Prent.
The new auralComp allows up to 16 channels of compressions (i.e. 8 stereo pairs) plus a final brickwall limiter, to treat multiple stems of audio rather than a more conventional stereo processing on your mix. The auralComp can fold down to a stereo comp can be used for buses or other separate submixes, and is entirely expandable from stereo left and right, right up to a maximum capability of a 7.1.4 system. All channels have clear metering to ensure you’re sending and receiving healthy levels of signal, with a handy toolbar for Bypass and some Quick Select modes.
Each channel has Ratio and Mix controls, allowing for parallel compression, as well as conventional Attack, Release, Threshold and Make-Up gain controls. For more control, they’ve added a Side Chain control, with a Link knob that allows you to blend between 0% (the compressor only reacts to its own input) and 100% (the compressor reacts only to the side-chain input), or anything in between. While a seemingly simple control, it’s not something seen commonly on much equipment at all!
Once you’ve compressed your sub mixes, the auralComp has a brickwall limiter at its end. There’s controls for Input, Output and Ceiling, as well as a Drive control for a little extra saturation if need be. The master section also has controls to dictate how the side-chain submixes are summed, offering Natural, Rectified and RMS options.
The auralComp is available now, has been developed with some of the biggest names in the immersive biz, and can help develop, compress and process your mixes no matter how comprehensive your immersive monitoring system is!
