Blending vintage charm with modern craftsmanship, the Stage 61 offers a streamlined, authentic Rhodes experience for musicians seeking classic tone in a portable design.

Since the 1950s, the Rhodes piano has undergone a journey of continuous innovation, evolving to meet the needs of musicians and enthusiasts alike. From its humble beginnings to its place as one of the most iconic instruments in music history, the Rhodes legacy has endured despite the challenges posed by the digital age. It has earned its status as the instrument of choice for countless global music legends, becoming synonymous with soul, funk, jazz, and beyond. Among Rhodes’ most significant achievements is the MK8 piano—a remarkable tribute to its lasting influence, designed with precision to honour Harold Rhodes’ original vision while embracing modern advancements.

Tine piano

A tine piano works by using the hammers on the keys to strike a tine, the iconic sound being the a counterbalance to the tine striking a resonant tone bar, which is then amplified via a pickup. The tine piano sound is synonymous with what’s described as the “Rhodes” sound.

Now, building on the immense success of the MK8, Rhodes is set to unveil the Limited Edition Stage 61. This new model is a fresh take on the beloved classic Rhodes pianos from the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s, blending vintage vibes with modern sensibilities. Designed by Axel Hartmann, the brilliant mind behind the MK8’s exterior shell, the Stage 61 offers a striking design that stands out from the crowd. With a khaki green ABS hood, a premium vinyl finish, and exclusive design details, the Stage 61 is not just a piano—it’s a statement piece for musicians and collectors alike.

Underneath the hood, the Stage 61 is packed with the same high-end components found in the flagship MK8, seamlessly combining the signature 61-key Kluge keyboard, carefully crafted for a real piano feel, with classic passive circuitry that requires no external power. The result is pure, unprocessed analogue sound, with volume and tone controls that are simple, intuitive and right at your fingertips. This compact version of the Rhodes experience offers authenticity and portability, making it equally at home in the studio or on stage.

Will the Stage 61 live up to the MK8’s legendary status? From the way it sounds, I’m confident it’s going to make waves—but we’ll let you be the judge. Keep reading at Rhodes.
