However, despite now regularly strutting his stuff alongside the famous UK rock group in arenas across the world, Lambert recently revealed in an interview that he never paid too much attention to Freddie Mercury and co. until witnessing the famous ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ scene in the ’90s cult classic film Waynes World.
In the recently released documentary The Show Must Go On: The Queen + Adam Lambert Story, the singer detailed how the film reignited his interest Queen – “I definitely heard songs of theirs around. But the first time I ever really asked, ‘Who is this band?’ was after seeing Wayne’s World. It was so much fun, that scene… I left the movie theater with my father and my little brother (and) I asked my dad, ‘What song was that?” And he said, ‘Oh, that’s Queen.’ And when we got home that night, he showed me some albums that he had of Queen.”
Lambert went on to discuss the personal impact that Freddie Mercury had upon him developing his own stage presence and being comfortable with his vocals, stating “I was delighted to see this guy running around on stage in these strange, outlandish outfits… I was instantly inspired, and I felt like there was some sort of kinship. I was just like, ‘This guy was fearless.’”
